Frequently asked Questions

What shows do you do here?

We do a wide variety of shows at Steele!

In the first semester we typically have two after School mainstage productions running: a full length two act musical, and the other a children's show that performs for both the public and elementary students.

In the second semester students audition for anywhere of 3-5 shows with only one audition. We do a UIL one- act play that goes to contest and competes, while we also produce anywhere from 2-4 Student Directed One-Act plays (or SOAPS).

Additionally our directors produce several shows throughout the school year during class (Theatre 3 and musical theatre)

How do you audition for plays?

There are a couple of simple processes for auditioning at Steele.

Mainstage: there will be audition info posted on Mr.Wright's webpage detailing the parameters to follow for musical  auditions there will be a cut of a song geared for particular characters that you will have to lean and perform in addition to a 1 minute monologue. If you do not feel comfortable singing you can just perform two contrasting monologues- tragic & comedic, sad & happy, contemporary & classical, etc.

Spring show auditions are simpler and that students will only be asked to perform two contrasting monologues.

Students auditioning will be considered for all parts in all shows to ensure that they are placed in a roll that suits their abilities and that they will succed in.

What is 8th period Production?

8th period production class is for the passionate and driven students of our department who are willing to give a lot of excess time and energy. This class is essentially an extension of rehearsal for both Individual Events at the Texas Thespian convention and after school productions. Students are required to audition for this class in order accepted, however our directors try their hardest to involve as many people so auditions are a great time to show off your skills and experiment!

What if I cannot stay for after school rehearsals and still want to be involved?

Not to worry! You still have plenty of opportunities to be involved in our department! We have many elective classes you can choose from, such as: Theatre 1,2,3,&4, Tech theatre 1 and 2, Musical Theatre, and 8th period production. In addition to those classes our thespian but has a wide variety of fun activities throughout the year, such as: Movie nights, parties,  open mic nights, lip sync battle nights, fundraisers, volunteering, camps, and a club meeting on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month!

What opportunities do I have if I'm interested in tech?

In addition to the multiple tech Theatre classes we provide at Steele, there are several Productions that you can be a part of after school as l! There is an application that will need to be filled out and turned in before the audition date, but we are always in need of new crew members!!
